Lake Superior Estuarium OPEN

The Lake Superior Estuarium is a gateway to the headwaters of the Great Lakes. Beautiful interactive displays tell stories of the St. Louis River Estuary, Lake Superior, and the communities on their shores. The exhibit hall includes a play area for young children, maps to orient you to the largest estuary on Lake Superior, and information to help you get out and explore.

Anna Johnson Collection Rotation

Anna Carolina Johnson (1881–1944) was born in Sweden, before immigrating to Michigan at age 10. Her marriage to Charles J. Johnson in 1907 brought her to Grand Marais, where she became a respected art teacher and a local entrepreneur. In addition to her paintings, which frequently depicted scenes of the North Shore and the Gunflint Wagon Road, she created and sold ceramics, etchings, and stained glass from a gift shop in the original Johnson Trading Post.

Beginning Clay with Sarah Black (first session of eight)

This class is intended for students with no or very limited experience throwing pots on the wheel to explore the medium and gain a solid foundation helpful in more advanced classes. Learn to center, create basic forms on the wheel, and trim and finish your pots, practicing the basic forms to get comfortable working with clay on the wheel. Try multiple techniques to find what works best.
