Lunch with the History People: Architects Small House Service Bureau

In order to secure their place in the home building market during the early 1900s, architects from Minnesota devised a new approach to produce low-cost house designs for prospective homeowners, created by professional architects. This concept arose as a way to compete with the free blueprints, which were circulating through publications and stores. They generated high-quality designs for small houses that were compiled in a catalog. Eventually, this idea was embraced by architects throughout the country. Come and see these fabulous designs and learn how many of these structures are still around today, even in Duluth. Brian McMahon has written numerous articles and has extensively lectured on architecture, industry and urban history. He also has created several museum exhibits, including “Bungalows of the Twin Cities.” In 2017, Brian presented for the Society on his book entitled The Ford Century in Minnesota. There will be limited theater-style seating (no tables), but feel free to bring your own bag lunch. Seating is first-come, first-served (no reservations). Admittance to this event is free to the public. ARCO coffee is provided.
