Dr. Belsky, UMD professor, will be speaking about her book Evacuees Encounters on the Soviet Home Front During the Second World War which examines the experiences of millions of Soviet citizens who were internally displaced (evacuated) in the wake of the Nazi invasion from their homes in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The book explores evacuees' experiences at sites of resettlement in Siberia, Central Asia, and the Urals and documents their encounters with local authorities and local populations as they struggled to adapt and survive in a time of crisis and scarcity.
