Superior Speaker Series: Sturgeon in Wisconsin – living fossils in a modern world

Join Paul Piszczek, WDNR Fisheries biologist, to learn about sturgeon in the St. Louis River and Estuary. Sturgeon are often referred to as “living fossils”. These ancient fish can live over 100 years and are highly dependent on good water quality to survive. Paul will weave together a story of history, biology and ecology, research, fisheries management, and Lake Superior, all via sturgeon.

What We Have to Lose: Amnesty International on the Mt. Polley Mine Disaster

A delegation from Amnesty International will share their experience in British Columbia in the wake of the Mt. Polley copper mining catastrophe, where downstream communities were forever altered following the release of 24 million cubic meters of toxic slurry after a tailings dam was breached. Light meal served at 6pm, presentation starts at 6.
