Stephen Foster: 200 Years of Song
Baritone Elias Mokole and pianist Linda Turpening present Stephen Foster: Two Hundred Years of Song on Sunday, June 28 at 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Duluth. The concert celebrates the bicentennial of Stephen Foster’s birth in 1826 and features a wide range of his music, from beloved sentimental melodies such as Beautiful Dreamer and Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair to humorous and patriotic songs from 19th-century America. The program also includes a small group of Revolutionary-era songs and Charles Ives’s He Is There, offering a broader glimpse into American musical life and memory. Admission is free, and a goodwill offering will be accepted.
