Join us at the Depot for our April Nerd Nite! Offered for your edutainment: -"The Care & Clothing of Your Seat" by Andrine Lemieux Have you ever felt like your seat was getting old and saggy? Do you wish for something firmer? Maybe you are not happy with the color, or you just feel like a change is needed? This Nerd Nite presentation is just the ticket for anyone who answers yes to any of the above. I will offer a bit of history (to satisfy the nerd part of Nerd Nite), and an overview of how a pro would spiff up your seat. Samples will be shared. Come ready to see lots of examples and bring your questions. -"Math in Media" by Jessica Schirle, PhD Science communication has often struggled with distilling academic STEM in a way that is both accurate and understandable to a broad audience. This is especially true when dealing with rigorous mathematics in television and film. In this talk, we will take a brief tour of mathematics as it appears in (somewhat) popular media, pointing out both the good and the bad. -"Look Outside: Hope in a Time of Hopelessness" by Briar Fernquist Isn't it odd how many times tropes like found family show up in apocalypse media? This presentation dives into the theme of hope in the bleakest of situations (a theme that feels important to keep in mind recently) in the world of Look Outside, an incredible indie horror game released last year.
