Bill & Kate Isles: Still Beneath the Stars and Moon

Fri. Feb. 17th, 2012  |  Paul Whyte

Some of you may have noticed that Bill and Kate Isles took the win for “Best Album” in the Reader’s Best of the Northland 2011 survey. Of course we made sure to grab a copy of the album to review it. Bill Isles played his first show of original music after a 25 year hiatus 12 years ago this February. It was an interesting decision to go that long without playing and to reemerge and make music his life’s work. Not only did he become well known in the area after his comeback, Bill and his wife, Kate, have become recognized throughout the nation’s folk and country scene.

Connolly jacks up Bulldog title hopes

Fri. Feb. 17th, 2012  |  John Gilbert

Jack Connolly seemed taken aback when it was suggested he might have been off his game in UMD’s 3-1 loss to North Dakota last Friday night. The AMSOIL Arena game was special, with the hanging of banners to pay tribute to UMD’s four previous Hobey Baker winners, and all four -- Tom Kurvers, Bill Watson, Chris Marinucci, and Junior Lessard -- were present for between-periods introductions at center ice.

Minnesota Wild Woes Continue Part One, And The Mfan Extra! Here We Go!

Fri. Feb. 17th, 2012  |  Marc Elliott

BILLINGS PARK…. I wrote back in October that I felt the 2011-12 version of the Minnesota Wild were going to finish in the 11th to 12th place neighborhood of the NHL Western Conference and I took a lot of heat for it. Lo and behold the club surprised everyone and in early December while Santa and the Elves were getting ready for a return engagement to your chimney, this team, yes this team, found themselves on top of the NHL points race. Then shazam! The hockey genie was put back into the bottle.
