Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra
Thursday, June 28, 7:30 pm
Duluth’s premiere oboist, Brett Linski, solos in Ewazen’s evocative Down a River of Time. Also on the program: The U.S. premiere of Consort Lessons by Alexander Litvinovsky, Schubert’s exquisite Fifth Symphony and a lovely, little-known Lullaby of George Gershwin.
Thursday, July 12, 7:30 pm
Twin Ports native Jennifer Turbes is featured in two works on two instruments: on viola, Schubert’s famous Arpeggione Sonata, and on Hardanger fiddle, the national instrument of Norway, a work by Johan Kvandal. Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite gives us more of Norway and Russell Peck’s Signs of Life II, a bit of America.
Thursday, July 19, 7:30 pm
Students of the Quartet Project and the Artaria String Quartet, Minnesota’s premiere chamber ensemble, join us for a concert in two parts. The first half is all strings with a work from the Italian Baroque by Corelli and three works by American composers. Winds replace strings in the second half with a Serenade by Richard Strauss and Erwin Schulhoff’s Concerto for String Quartet and Winds. (The last piece is our continuing exploration of music from composers who perished in the holocaust.)
Thursday, July 26, 7:30 pm
There’s always room for ‘cello! Peter Swanson performs Haydn’s famous concerto and Aleks Tengesdal presents the world premiere of Iranian Hooshyar Khayam’s Cello Concerto No. 2. They join together to close the concert with Giovanni Sollima’s rockin’ Violoncelles Vibrez!
