Led by the Martn Luther King Jr. Day (MLK Day)  planning committee of the Duluth NAACP, the Twin Ports will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King on Jan. 19 and 20.  

DUE TO COLD WEATHER, THE MARCH IS MOVED TO GATHERING AT THE DECC AND WALKING THROUGH THE SKYWALK SYSTEM.  

This year, the theme is “Make a Career of Humanity,” drawn from the words of Dr. King:  “Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.” 

This is also the 25th year we will host a community breakfast where we will honor some of the original organizers, including the Rev. Arthur Foy, III who passed away in 2004. 

The holiday events consist of:  

● Sunday, Jan. 18 - 4 pm; Community Worship Service at First United Methodist Church, 230 E  Skyline Parkway, Duluth.  The featured preacher is Rev. Rev. Laquaan Malachi, pastor of  Brunswick United Methodist Church in Crystal, Minn.  

● Monday, Jan. 19 - 7-9:30 am; Community Breakfast at First United Methodist Church, 230 E  Skyline Parkway, Duluth, with a large screen broadcast of the event at Minneapolis Convention  Center. More information at mlkbreakfast.com. Keynote speakers are Soledad O'Brien &  Freeman A. Hrabowski, III.

 ● Monday, Jan 19 - 11:15: UPDATED DUE TO WEATHER: Gather in lobby of DECC Symphony Hall, 350 Harbor Drive, Duluth. March begins at approximately 11:30 a.m. through the Skywalk.  

● Monday, Jan. 19 - Noon - 1:30 pm; DECC Symphony Hall,350 Harbor Drive, Duluth, A collection of speakers and performers. The featured speaker is Nicoshia Wynn, a former associate of Rev. Foy and founder of Relentless Academy, a nonprofit focused on youth, arts and education in the Twin Cities.
