The Cable Natural History Museum and Green Darner Media are thrilled to announce the release of Emily M. Stone’s third book about Northwoods nature. Natural Connections3: A Web Endlessly Woven explores the shimmering web of relationships that connects everything.
Two book events are scheduled for Sat., Nov. 29 to celebrate the Natural Connections book. Redbery Books in Cable, Wis, will host a book signing from 10 am to 12 pm. Honest Dog Books in Bayfield, Wis, will host a reception and signing on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 2 to 4 pm as part of Bayfield’s annual “Shop Small Crawl.” Stone will give a reading at 2 pm and kids of all ages can participate in a drawing activity to begin illustrating Natural Connections 4!
In what has become a fun tradition with Stone’s first two Natural Connections books, each chapter in Natural Connections3 begins with a whimsical line drawing created by a child or adult volunteer. A community of more than 40 individuals, from six-year-olds to professional artists, contributed their talent to this project. A reception for the artists will be announced soon.
“In a time that can feel hopeless, Emily’s stories remind us of the incredible awe and wonder that still exist. These stories transport us from tiny microbes to towering trees, connecting us with the soul of the Northwoods and beyond. Emily’s writing is joyful and informative, poetic and revealing. This book is like walking through the forest with a dear friend who also happens to be a skilled naturalist. It’s a true delight,” said Christine Peterson, an award-winning outdoors and environment writer who has been published in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Outdoor Life.
Emily M. Stone is a naturalist by birth, training, profession and passion. Her childhood spent as a “mud-and-water daughter” led to a degree in outdoor education from Northland College and a Field Naturalist Master’s from the University of Vermont.
As the Naturalist/Education Director at the Cable Natural History Museum, Emily writes a weekly Natural Connections column published in more than 20 local and regional newspapers (including the Reader, where readers named her the best writer appearing in Twin orts pulications in the Reader’s annual Best of survey).
She has earned several Excellence in Craft awards from the Outdoor Writers Association of America.
Her first book, Natural Connections: Exploring Northwoods Nature through Science and Your Senses, was published in 2016.
