Protest vote

The recent election is seen by most pundits as some kind of watershed event. In fact, it was nothing but the usual pendulum swing, the usual tussle about which of the two factions of the duopoly will serve the political elite doner class in the coming years.
For myself I chose not to vote.
We are continuously told by the political establishment that we must vote because every vote counts. Due to the electoral college this is a ridiculous claim since twice in recent decades the candidate with the most votes nationally (Al Gore and Hillary Clinton) did not win. Votes only count in a small number of swing states.

However, there is another deeper way in which our votes do not count. While there are some real differences between the two controlling parties when it comes to domestic issues, they are in lock step when it comes to their devotion to US hegemony in the world pursued in whatever way they deem necessary—war, regime change, economic strangulation, etc.

There was no clearer example than the undying devotion of both ruling party presidential candidates to the state of Israel. The reason is simple and straightforward and it has less to do with the power of the Israel lobby than the fact that Israel is the linchpin of US power in the Middle East. Hence the endless excuses and obfuscations that Biden, Harris, Blinken and Trump put forward to cover Israel’s mass killing of Palestinians.

For these reasons, I chose not to dignify their opportunism and amorality with my vote.
