Sound Cheq Music Festival May 24-26 Washburn WIsconsin small town music fest with 47 local musical acts at five venues. Performers include Baba Fats, Brett & The Little Big Show, Deja Blue. Dr. Euphonic, Floydian Slip, Jordan Grunow, Marky Russow, Old 13 String Bandits, Saints of Circumstance and more.
Spring Beach Cleanup Saturday, May. 25, 9:30 a.m. to noon Wisconsin Point The Point between Lake Superior and the St. Louis River Estuary is one of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine’s “Best Spots for Bird Watching in the U.S.” Safety vests, garbage bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, masks and modest snacks and water provided. Prize for whoever finds the most interesting piece of trash.
Duluth Harbor Monsters Saturday, May 25, 7 p.m. DECC Arena First game for the new local team in the Arena Football League, playing the Dallas Falcons. The team is coached by Tony O’Neil, Kevin ‘Junior’ Gregory, and D’Andre ‘Dre’ Sherill. This is Duluth’s second professional arena/indoor football team, the first being the Duluth-Superior Lumberjacks (1998-2000).
Magic Smelt Parade Sunday, May 26, 3:30 p.m. Canal Park Parade celebrating the annual smelt run in Lake Superior with giant puppets, masked dancers, a stilt-walking royal guard, the Brass Messengers band and the Smelt Queen procession. Event begins at the Aerial Lift Bridge on the lawn in front of the Maritime Museums and proceeds down the Lakewalk. Smelt fry and dance 5:30 p.m. at Zeitgeist Arts Cafe.
Memorial Day events Sunday and Monday, May 26 & 27 Various locations Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Saginaw hosts a program Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (Due to the high number of attendees expected, the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and carpool.) On Monday, the Gary-New Duluth 2024 Memorial Day Ceremony is 9 a.m. Superior’s ceremony is at 10:30 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery. Community Veterans for Peace hold a ceremony at Gitchi-ode’ Akiing (Lake Place Park) at 11 a.m. West Duluth Memorial Parade starts at 12:30 p.m.
