The One Act Play That Goes Wrong Saturday, Jan. 20, 1 p.m. Zeitgeist Teatro Free matinee (register at zeitgeistarts.com) of a comic play performed by inmates from the Duluth Federal Prison Camp. This 1920s whodunit has a corpse that can’t stay still, props that break, random falling things and fights among the cast and crew but somehow they’ll make it to the end, perhaps.

The World that Grew from Stumps & Slash Saturday, Jan. 20, 1 p.m. Forest History Center, Grand Rapids Iron Range author Aaron Brown talks about the old growth forests of northern Minnesota, their destruction by logging and mining, the new world that grew in their place, and how we can learn from changes that will happen again.

Emerging Artist Showcase  Saturday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m. Duluth Masonic Temple Minnesota Public Radio’s music station The Current presents this rare show at the 110-year old venue. Dianna Hunter Tuesday, Jan. 23, 6 p.m. Wussow’s The Duluth author will read from her new novel “Clouded Waters,” an environmental thriller/whodunit/Sapphic romance set on the Iron Range, and talk about writing and publishing with Q & A from the audience. 

Getz/Gilberto Wednesday, Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m. The West Theatre Intimate candlelight show recreates the seminal 1963 album by Stan Getz and João Gilberto that introduced the world to bossa nova and “The Girl From Ipanema,” along with other music in similar styles.
