One of the world’s largest and most prestigious mountain film festivals held in Banff, Alberta every fall, afterward touring in more than 40 countries and 550 communities, hosted here by the Duluth Cross Country Ski Club.

Lake Superior Railroad Museum

Jazz at the Depot came about after the Club Saratoga in Canal Park canceled its long tradition of Saturday afternoon jazz ensemble. They play big band hits, classic jazz favorites and modern fusion. Each session museum director Ken Buehler tells a train story.

World premiere of pianist Wendy Durrwachter's song cycle, inspired by the poetry of Duluthian Sheila Packa, about the beauty of the north and the resilience of displaced people. With Jennifer Lien, soprano.

Breakfast at 7 a.m. at First United Methodist Church features a brief local program and a broadcast of the program in Minneapolis. Gathering for the March is 10:30 a.m. at the Family Freedom Center (Washington Center Gymnasium). Rally is at noon at DECC Symphony Hall.


Tim Jacobson: Tuesday, Jan. 16, 5-7 p.m.

Sir Benedict’s

Tim “Jake” Jacobson has been a local musician in the Twin Ports for over 45 years, playing rock, jazz, country, pop and even a stint in the symphony. In his solo gig he incorporates guitar, mandolin and violin along with a looper.


Arctic Quest with Amy Varsek: Thursday, Jan. 18, 7 p.m.

Spirit Mountain Chalet

Starting in January 2004, four female Voyageur Outward Bound School instructors traveled 98 days across the Canadian Barrens. The expedition was the culmination of five years of raising dogs, constructing sleds, researching routes and building relationships.
