Sugar on the Roof

The Spitfire Grill Oct. 6-8 & 11-14 UMD Marshall Performing Arts Musical based on the 1996 film about a young woman with a shady past who arrives in the small town of Gilead (Maine in the movie, Wisconsin in the play) and starts over with a job in the namesake diner. 

Sugar on the Roof Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m. Earth Rider Brewery Barn-dance regulars blend traditional American music from the 1930s & ‘40s with their originals to create a signature sound. With Neatneatneat and Embalming Eva.  

Friend's Fest Saturday, Oct. 7, 12-8 p.m. Wild State Cider All-day celebration of friendship, two and four-legged. Music by Tophouse and Brothers Burn Mountain, a pop-up dog park, kids face painting, ice cream and, of course, cider.  

Martin Zellar Saturday, Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m. Sacred Heart Zellar appeared on the Twin Cities music scene in the ‘80s as lead singer and songwriter for alt-country pioneers The Gear Daddies, then performed as a solo artist and with his band The Hardways. “Head West” is his first release of new material in 11 years.  

Autumn in Paris Drag Brunch Sunday, Oct. 8, 12 & 2 p.m. Vikre Distillery Ooh la la! Step into a crisp Parisian autumn morning with the amazing drag performers from Duluth's Zenith City Horror. With Frenchie cocktails and an optional Parisian breakfast and dessert.  

The Long Goodbyes Tuesday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. Barrel Room Taking their name from a Raymond Chandler novel, The Long Goodbyes hit a sweet spot someplace within the eclectic constellation of power pop, classic country, Americana and rock ‘n roll.  

Dance TV Oct. 12-14 Zeitgeist Musical play about a TV show in which the performers go over the top, reveal the latest hit countdown and share the hottest gossip. But when they break for commercial, the backstage comedy, chaos, romances and relationships all come out on stage.
