 About those potholes

I think your newspaper called Duluth pothole capital. Some residents from Cody Street in West Duluth sent their damaged vehicles' repair bills to city hall to pay blaming the city for awful potholes.        

Actually, it is federal and state governments' fault, because local governments are not getting enough gas tax revenue to fix bridges, roads and streets because they are not willing to increase tax. Combined federal and state tax in Minnesota is only about 50c per gallon. Canadians and Europeans pay about five times as much per gallon. Last time our state increased gasoline tax was 1983-1984 by 3c per gallon. Governor Rudy Perpich wanted 5c increase, but legislators did not accept his proposal.          

Most of local governments revenue comes from commercial and residential properties. which is most regressive tax because it is not based on ability to pay. Income tax is fairest because individuals and businesses do not have to pay unless they have income. Sales tax is somewhere in the middle. In Minnesota we do not pay sales tax on clothing, groceries, medicine and text books like in our neighboring states.          

Since federal and state legislators are not providing enough revenue from local governmental units from gasoline, they should levy fees on vehicles.  Some families in our neighborhood have five vehicles and should  be able to afford the fees.           

We must communicate with our national and state legislators to help our communities.

Beware those evil Democrats

Communism teaches

This cultural Marxism is embraced by many Democrats. This is evil and perverse. Democrats promote killing babies in the womb and call it good. It’s evil. Democrats deny God’s word. “God created man in his own image, in the image of God. He created them, male and female. He created them.” Let’s honor God and the sanctity of life by being protective of our God-given lives. Don’t be cowed by the far left zeitgeist of our age. Push back! The Democrats promote perverting marriage. Civilization heretofore had never accepted same sex marriages. The Dems promote gods other than the one true God, Jesus the messiah. The false gods of self, pride and covetousness (socialism) and confusion. The Democrats confuse those experiencing gender dysphoria by encouraging underage children to question whether they are male or female. It is scientifically impossible to change sexes. Truth is, gender dysphoria can be treated and/or it ameliorates with time. To pump kids with life-changing hormones in a futile attempt to change sexes is abusive, perverse. The radical leftist Democrats mock our Constitution; their elected party members take the oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution WITH evasion and mental reservation. Failure to defend free speech, freedom of religion, the 2nd amendment, federalism, the 10th amendment. The Constitution was written to keep an all-powerful, paternalistic national government in check; but the Democrats want a heavy-handed Big Brother forcing all to accept evil and perversity.
