NCNP will be restless when the pope comes to town

Forrest Johnson

Well, the nincompoops are still at it. Taking denial to papal lengths, at least one member of the New Conservative Neanderthal Party (NCNP), formerly the republicans, will be boycotting the pope when the pontiff addresses Congress this week.
Rep. Paul Gossar, a NCNP member from Arizona, is “begging off because he hears Francis is going to discuss issues he doesn’t agree with.”
Gossar apparently said in a recent Townhall.com column that if the pope were to discuss issues the congressman found important, such as religious freedom, terrorism and abortion, then he would be “first in line” to attend. Instead, among other things, the pope will be discussing what Gossar called “the fool’s errand of climate change” and acting like a leftist politician bent on tearing down our way of life in this proud economocracy of the United States.
Nimble in denial, the nincompoops of the NCNP are clumsy when it comes to the realities of science and the workings of a planet filled to the brim with 7.2 billion people. The terms “climate change” and “global warming” are as scary as Satan to them and they’ll go to great lengths to pray to the false gods of the free market and religious fundamentalism to keep science from intruding on their beliefs.
Yes, the clowns are leading the NCNP parade. But these aren’t happy clowns. These are the kinds of clowns that scare small children and dogs.
Just listen to Rep Paul Gossar, a self-proclaimed “proud Catholic”, and you’ll see what I mean.
“When the pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one. I have both a moral obligation and leadership responsibility to call out leaders, regardless of their titles, who ignore Christian persecution and fail to embrace opportunities to advocate for religious freedom and sanctity of human life.”
Yes friends, Christians all over this country are taking it on the chin right now and the pope is another of the ringleaders of persecution. A poor Christian who is willing to bomb Iran and throw millions of illegal immigrants out the window while still believing in Jesus just can’t catch an even break these days.
And then the pope comes to this country to talk about climate change and runaway capitalism? Well, that’s just too much for red-blooded Americans like Rep. Paul Gossar of Arizona so he’s sitting it out, thank you.
Believe me, Gossar is not alone by a long shot in believing that the heretics have taken over the kingdom.
That the pope has been willing to address humankind’s effect on the planet, poverty and the need for compassion may be a turning point in addressing such politically charged topics. The pope just may be able to turn the tide of indifference and doubt. Granted, holdouts such as Gossar and the NCNP minions will continue to fight with their eyes closed and claim “persecution” but the pope’s Jesuit message will change hearts.
Simply put, climate change is about pollution. Pollution of our planet. Warming comes when we endlessly send pollutants into the thin finite membrane of atmosphere that surrounds us.
Some economists are finally indicating that the real cost of dealing with pollution is a market failure. Spending the last century or two simply sending pollution downriver or skyward has circled back to haunt us with super fund sites and health issues and the costs to clean up what we’ve soiled.
The captains of industry never worried about pollution, even after society grew tired of rivers that caught fire and black lung in the working class. It cost nothing to pollute.
The pope has pointed out how unfettered greed has fueled the popular brand of runaway capitalism so hard on those in need.
Naysayers in the NCNP say that the pope and the rest of the lefty-leaning scientists, the environmental whackos and their political pals are ganging up on our way of life. To top it off, the lefties are making Christians commit acts that go against their religious beliefs. Marry a gay couple? Help the poor? For crying out loud what next? Trust a Muslim or provide health care? Yes, the poor followers of the NCNP are fighting an uphill battle against the oppressors of privilege and the American way of life. What next? Outlaw mom, apple pie and the flag?
Raised a pagan Lutheran, from a family that didn’t believe in the Devil and didn’t quite get to church every week, I’m kind of liking this pope and his message. It’ll be very interesting to watch the sardonic looks on the faces of the NCNP members who stick around for his talk with Congress this week.
