I was pleasantly surprised and quite impressed to find that, even though the weather was terrible, many people showed up to the Trampled By Turtles concert perfectly dressed. This is homage to the great outfits that suffered through the rain. Even though most of these outfits were covered up by rain gear, there was great effort put into looking good. Concert and festival wear produce some of my favorite kinds of outfits. It’s clothing that looks spur-of-the-moment. Funky patterns and colorful pieces stand out which is exactly what we want. We can be creative with our clothing at these events. I like to call it complete clothing freedom.
Gatherings like these are also great for finding cohesive fashion. It’s when we can really let our Minnesota pride fly – while watching music that very well represents our culture. I saw a lot of flannel, and it fit the occasion. There was no problem getting down in a five inch thick mud pit during pouring rain because we all have cute and practical rain boots, goulashes and waterproof jackets because we live in Minnesota. My point is – our personal Minnesotan style really shined that night. Why? Most people get dressed up for big events. Of course we like to look good when there are a thousand other people around. It’s also expected that you’d look good on a night out, and we need a little bit of that pressure to put forth effort into what we’re wearing.
But I would like to see more outfits like this on a regular basis. Duluth, I know you can be stylish. My advice: dress like it’s a Trampled By Turtles concert every day.
