Racist

“And those who were seen dancing, were thought to be insane, by those who could not hear the music” - Friedrich Nietzsche

I loved Bill Clinton. I wasn’t old enough to vote when he was in office, but I loved him. It’s not just because of my complete Hilary fascination, but Bill Clinton was a good president. He was fair, and very democratic. His platform was for the good of ALL people. He was literally an Obama, but with an actual clear motive and strategy. His downfall? He cheated on his wife. Terrible, yes I know. However, in real life, this happens day in and day out. It’s more a common day dilemma then national history. I hate it that because of that personal mistake, his political career faltered, Bill Clinton can no longer be our president. I believe that’s a travesty. He made a mistake.

People make mistakes. Even really important people. I guess I just wonder who draws the line at what makes a mistake forgivable, and what makes it too much to get over. Take Elliot Spitzer per say. Creep- total creep in my opinion. Using escorts with tax dollars to get off- all along having a huge bank account and beautiful wife at his disposal. He’s unforgivable. He was just a jerk that needed more gratification than he was receiving and that makes me sick. Yet, he now has a nationally syndicated talk show, and rakes in the money. But... what about Kerry Gauthier? Our local politician, due his glory, who is now held accountable for his “sins” against us. Is he really not forgivable? Is all this media circus really worth it? Did the Duluth News Tribune really need to crucify him? Or was there just not any recent animal sighting to headline the paper?

Basically here’s the issue- Kerry Gauthier is someone I like. I don’t know him personally, but he has always gone for things I wanted in this state. I like him. I like his politics, I like his enthusiasm. I’m not going to lie, his pro viking stadium was big for me, but that’s not just it, he’s a good politician. The first reaction I had to this whole ridiculous rest stop incident was just this “Oh my god, they are going to kill him.” I was kind of right. I agree, the place and the time of the incident, was all wrong. But what is the debate here? Is it because he chose the wrong place and time (and yes, possible age group) or is it because, he’s gay? I have to say for as far as “Minnesota Nice” goes, we are awfully far behind the movement where people get to love whoever the hell they want. There is a huge amount of bigotry in this state, and it makes absolutely no sense to me.

It makes me laugh, that while all Duluth has to be Pro- the “Unfair Campaign” or else you are racist- we don’t see being against gay people as racist. Let me tell you this- all you wonderful people sticking up for anybody who is not white and believing you are amazing- racism has no color. You are NO BETTER for being against same sex relationships. You are just a tool to a silly little campaign Duluth invented. You either live and let live- no matter race, creed, origin or preference or you are racist. PERIOD

Why did Kerry Gauthier have to drop out of the race? Is it because Minnesotans just can’t have him  involved in a relationship? Or is it because he’s now, admittedly gay? I know you people- it’s because he’s gay. In my opinion, this entire election is based on sexuality more than any other political platform. If you are pro-Romney you think you can tell a person who they can be with. Who their health benefits due to them, should be shared with. Gay people don’t exist in a world where you are pro-Romney. If you are pro-Obama, you agree that any person any sex, can be married with eachother.... But think about it. We aren’t stupid. This vote isn’t about same sex marriage and whether we all think that’s ok. This vote is whether or not you are OK PERSONALLY with gay people in general. It’s basically: Gay: yes or no. The marriage part has little to do with it. It’s just a cover so none of us have to feel bad.

In a day when we are ok with pretty much anything thrown at us- how are we STILL anti gay? It’s truly frightening. I’m angry that like Bill Clinton, Kerry Gauthier has to feel he’s no longer eligible to be in public office. And why? Did he launder money or cash fraudulent checks? Did he beat little children and fight dogs? No. None of the above, he’s gay; and that’s about it.

Bottom line, love is love. I don’t care who you are or what you do, you are going to love who your heart tells you to. Gauthier would have been better off coming out long ago- but if he had- would he ever have been reelected? Probably not. It’s a sad world we live in when and where anything is possible except to be just who you are, without a bunch of bullshit.
