What A World.....

Holy Crazy Heat Batman! I don’t know about everyone else- except for half the chunky ghetto walking around ¾ naked by plaza shopping center- but I think that its about the hottest I’ve ever felt in an early July in Duluth. I have an awesome house- but not on hot days- I have windows that literally surround the premises so basically we get sun all hours of the day. The inside gets a little toasty. Toasty like we are being cooked from the inside out and will most certainly die. It’s funny, as I write this, my panting dogs sound like a chorus of tiny sweaty, wheezing, gremlins....Chill out PETA- I’m not the zoo- I’m supplying them ice water and fans (ok bad joke).

I really don’t remember this before. I don’t remember a June or July where the air temperature has reached over 90 degrees. But then again I don’t remember a time where our little city on a hill was deteriorated by a flood, yet that obviously happened.

Between 1972-1973 Duluth experienced three major storms that had devastating effects like this modern flood. But that was three storms- not one. At first I was thinking maybe we are just having a repeat of that summer.....but I’m really not so sure. Everyone made huge jokes about Al Gore when he came out with his Global warming catastrophe speech. People say global warming is a theory and nothing more, all we experience every year is simple climate change-relatively normal in an ever-changing universe. Guess what? I don’t think so.  It’s easy to say-” oh sure its extreme but this all has happened before,” and maybe it has but you have to take into account the weather and climate and all other manner of  issues happening everywhere. Everything about today and tomorrow is different, and I’m not sure it’s for the better.

Today, as I complain about our 92 degrees- and how gross it feels-people in the Kansas plains are dealing with temperatures exceeding 110 degrees. Some of them, because of super intense thunder storms are without power. Some of these cities have been dealing with these temperatures for weeks on end. When do you remember a time where temps in the United States exceeded 110? I’m sorry but that’s not America weather. That’s Afghanistan weather.  It’s so hot here that Colorado is on fire. Not just a little forest fire, but it’s literally burning up. New York and New Jersey have been living unbearable heat for days on end. Everyone is steaming- even northern Minnesota....but that’s not even the worst of it.

Its not just global warming that’s the issue. I do believe-all paranoia aside- there is something to be said for the doomed prophecies that circled around the year 2012. I’m not saying like yes, we are going to die this year. However, look around you! This planet is completely haywire! I’ve already mentioned the weather, and that’s almost enough in itself to be more than a little terrifying. Look at the rest of it- fighting throughout countries in an unprecedented manner. The toll of murders among the drug cartels and border wars in Mexico has surpassed the thousands mark. Egypt is at odds. Israel and Syria at a boiling point. Japan, and North Korea are messing with nuclear reactors that no one wants them to have and China appears to have become the utmost super power on the Earth. Don’t deny that. They have armies and technologies and capabilities, and you know, “ EDUCATED” people that far now surpass that of the United States. The United States- we appear to be folding in on ourselves. Our next presidential campaign is between a celebrity idiot and a plain old idiot. We can’t win with either one. Either way we are looking at a future of economic downfall and too much government to suffocate us in this nation even more.

We have numerous accounts of cannibalistic attacks- everywhere. I’m not sure how much news the rest of you endure but the guy who got his face eaten is the tip of the iceberg. We have drugs- synthetic weird drugs being consumed by people in the masses. It makes them crazy and feel untouchable yet at the same time our nations crime rates- many due to the influx of these drugs are through the proverbial roof. We have sex offenders walking the streets. Drug addicts teaching our kids. We have crime and violence and torrential rains and earthquakes and fires and a power grid that will eventually give out on us. The world right now- its a mess.

I realize how pessimistic I sound. I’m not trying to be like that yet I do think that many people think the same thing I do- such as – what in the hell is this? You can’t look at the entire world right now and not think -Is this all ok here? Can we manage this? Or more important, can the planet manage us anymore?
