Dr. Lorena Rios Mendoza - Microplastics in the Environment
Local researcher and UWS professor, Dr. Lorena Rios, has gained national and international attention due to the unique work she and her team is doing to understand the sources, impacts, and solutions to increased plastics in the Environment. In 2015 The Federal Government passed the Microbead-Free Waters Act which bans the use of microbeads, small plastic beads, in personal care products, in large part due to Dr. Rios' pioneering work.
