TAURUS

April 19th-May 19th

Taurus has a deep-rooted need for material and emotional stability and security…all are fundamental to their sense of well-being. Basically then, they are the Goblins of “Gringott’s”…..the only wizarding bank in Harry Potter’s world. This is true because they have a strong security and building impulse, and make good investors, bankers, and accountants. Possessors and protectors of objects, money, and people, Taureans are deeply practical and realistic….sort of like a hoarder with a conscience.
Jimmy Stewart was a Taurus…even the role he played in “It’s a Wonderful Life” as George Bailey had him doing the sensible, noble thing in taking over the Bailey Building and Loan when his father died, instead of fulfilling his real desire to “see the world!”
Deeply practical and realistic, Taurus is the first of the Earth signs, and as such it is called a “fixed” sign. Taureans will persevere until they attain their goals…the Richard Simmons of the work-out world. Cher is a great example, as is Al Pacino, and  Jack Nicholson. They will be famous to the end, as survivors in a cold-hearted industry….they triumph for staying true to their “image”.
The Taurean’s gourmet and sometimes humongous appetites and their appreciation of fine food and wine can, however, lead to problems with their weight. Orson Welles is a classic Taurus….loving all the good things in life. He once ate 18 hot dogs in one sitting at “Pink’s”, a Los Angeles hot dog stand…*burp*. His average dinner famously consisted of two steaks cooked rare and a pint of scotch…yikes!
On another side note, Taureans have a flair for design and color, and they enjoy a deep affinity with music, often possessing beautiful singing or speaking voices…once again Orson Welles was the narrator for many of the trailers for “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”. He hated working on “The Transformers: The Movie”, where he voiced Unicron. When asked about the film, he not only couldn’t remember the name of his character, but he described the film as such…”I play a big toy who attacks a bunch of smaller toys.” Orson Welles was also George Lucas’ first choice as the voice of Darth Vader, but thought Orson’s voice too recognizable.
Ruled by the planet Venus, Taurus is sensual, not just in a sexual manner, but in anything that pleases the senses.
Rudolph Valentino, famous silent film star of the 1920’s, and heart-throb was called the “Latin Lover.” He single-handedly changed the way generations of men and women thought about sex and seduction.
Being romantic and natural dreamers, is it any wonder that William Shakespeare and Leonardo da Vinci were Taureans.
Sigmund Freud, also a Taurus, was the father of psychoanalysis. He is best known for his tendency to trace nearly all psychological problems back to sexual issues. He died of cancer of the jaw, never wanting to give up the very cause of his cancer….his lust of rich cigars (Taurus).
Taureans have endless patience (their symbol is the Bull), and an easy-going calm….buh, buh, buh…Bing Crosby comes to mind, a man embodying the voice and demeanor common to the sign of Taurus.
Taureans usually go through their lives at a slowly-but-surely pace. This might seem to imply that they can be plodders, but there is also a whole other side to their nature.
Taureans can let their desires get the better of them, whether in terms of sexual satisfaction, food, drink, money, status, or any other artifact…in essence, they become obsessed far more readily than other signs. They are driven by some powerfully sensual instincts, and these, once aroused, are difficult to control…think Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, or Lindsey Lohan!
The hardest thing for Taureans to accept is the fact that change is inevitable, and they often get stuck in life by refusing to move forward.
Taureans are excellent friends, often being the one to come get you (drunk and belligerent) at 3:00 am in the morning to get your sorry ass home safely…hence, their few, but authentic circle of friends look up to them for help in times of need.
Here are some famous quotes uttered by those of the sign of Taurus, and showing the very essence of the sign itself:

LIBERACE:  When asked if he was ever upset by criticism, he replied, “Oh, yes…the other day I cried all the way to the bank!”

AUDREY HEPBURN:   “I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing….kissing a lot! I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.”

BARBARA STREISAND:  “Why does a woman work 10 years to change a man’s habits, and then complain that he’s not the man she married?”

ELLA FITZGERALD:  “Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”

EMILIO ESTEVEZ:  “I used to google my name to see what came up…it hurt.“

GEORGE CARLIN:  “When someone is impatient and says, ’I haven’t got all day,’ I always wonder, how can that be? How can you not have all day?”

GEORGE LUCAS:  “May your ships and may the FORCE be with you.”

And lastly, but most eloquently………

JACK NICHOLSON:  “People who speak in metaphors should shampoo my crotch.”

Taurus is the most fixed of all the signs, and is strongly rooted in tradition. As a consequence, Taureans are famous for being stubborn, for digging their heels in, and for standing their ground. This can be either good or bad.
If life is conducted on their terms, Taureans can go with the flow and enjoy the contentment of the moment. Life is very simple to a Taurus…black and white (no 50 shades of grey) in between. Deep in every Taurus is the need to be useful and productive and to build something solid, permanent, and tangible that will stand the test of time, but they need inspiration to develop their abilities and talents.
Taurean Yogi Berra: “You wouldn’t have won if we’d beaten you.”

In closing, a fond fairwell to Jay Leno, another wonderful Taurus. I end with his quote:
“I think high self-esteem is over-rated. A little low self-esteem is actually quite good. Maybe you’re not the best, so you should work a little harder.”
Amen.
