Trump and 3,553 commandments

Ed Raymond

If the Perfect God created Perfect Adam and Perfect Eve, we would now have four billion Adams and four billion Eves of all ages on Perfect Planet Earth. Wouldn’t that be a Perfect Mess?

We have transitioning to do before voting for truth and justice

For the 300,000 years Homo sapiens have succeeded Neanderthals, we have come up with 10,000 religions, 28,000 gods and 7,000 languages to describe 3,553 rules just three major religions have insisted members live by. In the past 2,000 years the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican have come up with 2,865 commandments, laws and rules to keep us straight and narrow. The emphasis is on “straight” and not “gay.”

The Jewish religion, around for nearly 4,000 years, has developed 613 commandments in the Torah, and has some Jews who are so conservative they live like its 4,000 BC. The Flintstones are neighbors.

Islam is only 1,500 years old but has borrowed a lot of stuff from older religions. Muslims have only 65 commandments in the Koran they call “good manners.” They have a difficult point no other major religion has accomplished. How do you make martyrdom and Paradise so marvelous that teenagers will gladly turn themselves into suicide bombers and blow themselves and others to a beautiful and fulfilling Paradise?

I assume each of the 10,000 religions have their own rules and commandments. I know the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the Tennessee Snake Handlers and the Satanic Temple Church have different rules. About 80% of Homo sapiens belong to one or more of the 10,000 “faiths” available. Christians are still the largest group at 2.2 billion.

Is liberty safe in the hands of any church? The answer is definitely ‘NO!’

A very smart man who ended up an atheist wrote these prescient words 150 years ago after he had studied Roman Catholicism, Protestantism and Islam: “It probably will not be long until the churches will decide as sharply upon political, as upon theological questions. And when that day comes, if there are not liberals enough to hold the balance of power, this government will be destroyed. The liberty of man is not safe in the hands of any church.”

We may have reached that point in the Divided States of America. Well, we currently have 10,000 different religions to choose from. Maybe we should wait to make a choice only when less than 50% on earth belong to a religion – so none have enough power to overrule a democracy. Members of the Hare Krishna church are absolutely forbidden to be outside during a solar eclipse. They might see the demon Rahu’s decapitated head chase the sun and moon and eventually swallow the sun. They fill temples to pray that the forces of darkness led by a demon are not destroying the universe.

C’mon, that demon is not Rahu, that’s Donald Trump!

Some religions say eclipses are used by gods to show almighty power on suitable occasions. Pregnant women are warned never to look at the sun or the moon during eclipses because the child would be “metamorphosed” into a large rat or suffer a major physical defect such as having a harelip. A Texas woman shot up cars on an interstate highway because God directed her to do it during the recent eclipse. She used an AR-15 and a 9 mm handgun to perform God’s work.

A critical scientific fact: Genetic experts estimate 10% may be LBGTQIA+

With a world population of eight billion, that means about 800 million are members of the LBGTQIA+ community. Polls of that community indicate that out of every 100 members, 11 are lesbians, 19 are gays, 54 are bisexual, 10 are transgender and six are queer, pansexual or “other.” We also have a category known as asexual who have no interest in sexual matters. They are difficult to count! Bisexuals tend to marry partners of the different sex than live with a partner of the same sex. These numbers serve only as guidelines.

Genetics is a complicated subject, so these facts are in Introductory Sex 101, and change as we continue to evolve in Darwinian fashion. If you are a theologian or a politician at any level, genetics may be more important to your constituents than global economics or constitutional law. We have a number of “conservative” Roman Catholics and fundamentalist Christians who fill local editorial and opinion pages with biblical and Vatican tales about God is responsible for creating the handsome Tom Cruise and the beautiful Marilyn Monroe, and Lucifer and his brother Satan are responsible for creating Michaelangelo, Leonardo DaVinci and the rest of the LBGTQIA+ community since Lucy fell out of that African tree.

The Bible says God checks out each of us in the womb, whether single or quadruplets. One might think the Grand and Great Designer would discover the fetus with both sets of genitalia in one baby. Where are all those homosexuals birthed? One baby out of 100 is transgender. One baby out of 100 is asexual. Are these religious “accidents?”

If the Perfect God created Perfect Adam and Perfect Eve, we would now have four billion Adams and four billion Eves of all ages on Perfect Planet Earth. Wouldn’t that be a Perfect Mess?

A critical sex fact: Twenty percent of fertilized eggs die before a breath is taken

Medical authorities say this fact has not changed much in a century, even with all the advances made by medical science. From 25 pregnancies, five fetuses will never take a breath. Three or four will die from miscarriages because something went physically wrong with fetus or mother. One fetus will die from a serious physical deformity. Another may need surgery in the womb to survive.

Remember those stories of the pioneer women who stopped plowing behind a horse, laid down in the furrow and gave birth, and picked up the reins of the horse again? Hogwash, she and the baby died.

We always hear those cries of “Murder!” at abortion clinic protests, and “Life begins at conception!” at political hearings in red and some blue state capitol buildings. Of course, life begins at fertilization, conception and “personhood” or whatever phrase turns you on. But we all know death always follows life. We hear of fetus heartbeats long before the heart is totally formed. We also hear of how difficult it is to sustain life when a fetus-baby is born at 24 weeks instead of 36.

Would a Perfect Designer use a common chute for body waste and sex? Some medical experts ridicule this design.

To the pope, cardinals, bishops, priests: Who created LBGTQIA+?

I’m going to use a survey of 92,000 transgender and nonbinary Americans from every state by the National Center of Transgender Equality. The survey had 600 questions for ages 16 and up. It was skewed young, with 43% of the respondents aged 18 t0 24.

• Nearly one-third said they were verbally harassed in the previous year and 3% said they were physically attacked because of gender identity.

• Eighteen percent said they were unemployed and one-third said they had experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. More than one-quarter had avoided going to a doctor because of high costs.

• Nearly 94% said they were more satisfied with their lives since transitioning. Among those receiving hormones, 98% said the treatments had made them more satisfied with life.

• Nearly half said they had considered moving in the previous year because of the huge number of restrictive bills passed or introduced in their state, and 5% said they had moved.

• Forty-four percent said they had suffered severe psychological distress in the previous 30 days.

Since the 2015 survey, state legislatures have grown more hostile toward gay people, with restrictions in health care, for minors and adults, library books, bathroom access, sports participation in schools, and gender identification on legal documents. States are now considering 400 bills, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

• More than 8,000  U.S. Transgender Survey responders were ages 16-17. More than 60% of teenagers reported mistreatment in school, including verbal harassment, physical violence and online bullying as well as being barred from using their chosen names, pronouns or the matching of bathrooms to the gender identity. Minors were also more likely than adults to report having family members who were not supportive of their gender identity, and 5% said that family members had been violent toward them because they were transgender.

Republicans are anti-vaccine, anti-Ukraine, anti-LBGTQIA and anti-sex

And all for political power with the MAGA cult, a group that leads the Divided States of America in teenager births, divorces and sexual abuse. Historian Rebecca Solnit has written 20 books on feminism, abortion, environment, sex, art and history. I read her all the time to stay in touch with the opinions of women.

Her latest opinion piece, “The Republican Party Has Become a Full-fledged Anti-sex Movement” adds another “anti” to a record number Trumplicans are maintaining. It’s about sex and abortion – and she is an expert on women’s participation: “At this point we all know they (R) include prosecution for miscarriages suspected of being abortions, let alone for actual abortions, and lack of timely care from medical providers, who, fearful of prosecution themselves, sometimes wait for miscarrying patients to go critical from infection or loss of blood before offering care. As the law journalist Mark Joseph Stern tweeted on March 27, ‘The anti-abortion movement’s end goal is to let doctors refuse treatment—including life-saving emergency care—for patients whom they doom to be sinful and morally impure.’ The patients, largely women, are supposed to die for their sins.

As if that wasn’t enough, in May, 2023, the Hermitage Foundation declared on social media: ‘Conservatives have to lead the way in restoring sex to its true purpose, & ending recreational sex & senseless use of birth control pills.’ It’s a fanatical statement: the vast majority of sex had by the vast majority of human beings does not have reproduction as its goal, though the term recreational disparages what can be a joy, a profound connection or a transcendence of self, among other things.” Aren’t billionaire barbarians the ones who have rented, leased and bought sex-driven politicians by the hundreds so they have beautiful, sexy, nearly nude young women stand by cars to sell more Belchfire V-8s? I see the Arizona Supreme Court has revived an 1864 abortion law so that women in the state can only get an abortion if their life is “threatened.” If providers make the wrong judgment, they may spend two to five years in prison.

At the present time one out of four Americans will have an abortion before menopause. Most of the abortions today are performed on women at least 26 years of age and already have two children – and most likely cannot afford a third.

I have a suggestion. I think it’s beyond time that all pro-choice women in the country nationally organize and tell Congress that if Roe v. Wade is not passed by June 1, all pro-life women will go on a national strike on June 2 and not return to work until the bill is passed. That’s what my French sisters would do. Watch the billionaire barbarians squirm.
